Makeup for Beginners – The Budget Edition

Makeup for Beginners – The Budget Edition
When it comes to buying makeup, it can become overwhelming quite soon. Especially if you are not a beauty person. I wrote a guide on buying luxury makeup on my blog earlier, thus I also wanted to share my favourite budget beauty picks that would be ideal makeup for beginners. The product recommendations would be a good place to start if you are planning to build a makeup kit on a budget.

I do not usually go for budget foundations as I like the quality and overall feel of luxury alternatives better. However, there are two budget foundations that have been a constant in my collection the last few years – the L’Oreal Nude Magique Cushion foundation and Rimmel Wake Me Up foundation. Both the foundations give a healthy, radiant finish to the skin that is easy to blend and apply, making them great choices for a starter budget foundation.

Face Powder

I like to use a translucent face powder to set my makeup, especially in the T-zone area. The two budget face powders options that I really like are the NYX High Definition Finishing Powder in Translucent and the cult status Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder in Transparent. The face powders work well in the undereye area as well as to set the whole face. Both the powders keep the shine away as well help minimize the appearance of pores. They are definitely where you should start if looking for a face powder on a budget.

I love using highlighters in my makeup routine as I love the glow they add to the skin. The budget highlighter that I gravitate towards is the NYX Born to Glow Liquid Illuminator in the shade Gleam. It adds the most subtle glow to the skin without looking unnatural.

However, I have not yet found a budget powder highlighter that I love. Let me know if you have any recommendations?

There are many great blusher options at the drugstore, but I think my favourite brand for blushers is Milani. I love the Milani Baked Blush in the shades Luminoso and Amore which have a little bit of shimmer to them that gives a beautiful glow to the skin. If shimmer blushers are not your thing, then opt for the Milani Rose Powder Blush in Romantic Rose which is a beautiful everyday matte pink blush colour.
If you are looking for a cream blusher option at the drugstore then look no further than the Kiko Velvet Touch Creamy Stick Blush, which comes in eight shades and provides a natural-looking colour to the cheeks. I love the shade 08 Rose Mauve for everyday use.

Eyeshadow Palette

Although I own a few eyeshadow palettes, I rarely love a budget pick. However, the Wet n Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Collection in C738 Comfort Zone is a high street gem which I haven’t been able to put down since I purchased it. This palette has eight versatile shades which can easily create an everyday eye look or even an intense smokey eye. At under £6, it doesn’t break the bank either.

Mascaras are a product where I have always stuck with budget buys. There are tons of great mascaras at the drugstore, but my favourite two brands for mascaras are Bourjois and Loreal. I absolutely love the Bourjois Volume Reveal mascara and the L’oreal Volume Million Lashes Mascara. Both mascaras are long-wearing and have the ability to add both volume and length to the lashes.

There are tons of great budget lipstick formulas that are available in the drugstore. But if you are starting out with makeup, I would recommend starting with NYX Cosmetics brand that has a range of colours for every person. I love the NYX Soft Matte Lip Creams and the NYX Matte Lipsticks, as both of them have a very comfortable formula.

A couple of other budget lipstick options that I gravitate towards are the Maybelline Colour Sensational Lip Colour and L’oreal Colour Riche Lipcolour lipsticks, both of which are affordable long-staying lipstick formulas.
